Bird bath?

The Kyoto sunbed designed by Wolf Udo Wagner for garden furniture manufacturer Fischer Moebel is made from foam which is coated with polyurethane.

Its an interesting and quite attractive product but the element that particularly stood out to me was its unsuitability to the task. One of the key features of the form is the depression in the foreground, an idea spot for water to pool, yet there appears to be no provision for drainage. Hopefully this small, though crucial, detail is included by the time it reaches production otherwise the user will need to remember to move their sunbed into the shade.

Maybe this is an illustration of the differences between a furniture designer and an industrial designer...?

Tear-away wine label

This is a brilliant idea for the forgetful (when sober) wine drinkers: the label on Oxford Landing's South Australian Shiraz includes a perforated portion containing the relevant information that can be stashed in the wallet, with the shopping list or simply stuck on the fridge so that you'll remember that you enjoyed it, and know what it was for next time.

Cool Pictures on the H.A.M.B.

I just found a gold mine of cool pictures (so the thread title says) on the H.A.M.B. I've only gone a couple of pages in so far as I don't want to be too successful at procrastinating right now (plus it would chew through my limited download quota) but here are a few highlights:

L 40 Chair

The L 40 Chair by Geoffrey Lilge, made from solid maple and bendywood, seems to be a triumph of wooden craftsmanship, all the blended joins and curves flow together nicely within the geometric form.
There are two versions of it I'd like to see; in bare timer, with a light oil/wax; and upholstered or with fabric sling surfaces, the frame looks so delicate with out the panels:

The essential elements

I intend to use this blog as a running journal of items and concepts that peak my interest, I'll be putting up the work of others I admire and occasionally some of my own, along with things I just like for no other reason. There is unlikely to be too much unique content on here, as I gather the majority of my new information from my ever growing collection of bookmarks, as such it will basically all be plagiarised (yet referenced). There will be no particular running theme or format, just a hap-hazard collection of things I find interesting.

As this is basically for my own entertainment I might as well start by posting some of the things I find interesting.

-A sly combination of interests:

Bikes, furniture design, hoarding parts inside...
By Custompop, great site too.

- Unique choice of engine for a unique bike.

Jason Tiedeken's Lockheed Lounge uses a turbo CB360 in a scratch built tubular frame. Looks like it's using some cafe racer proportions combined with intricate fabrication to great effect. It reminds me of some of Roger Goldammer's work and I'm keenly anticipating the finished bike.
From: Hell for leather

- Likely to become a habit of mine when I become a grumpy old coot:

Proof reading the world around us (yet not my own work)
Found on FFFound, a site I love but avoid, it's too addictive!

-Brilliant!

The rubber fingered dash for Renault by Bigio+Zanon, cleaning it would be interesting though.
